The Chevrolet Equinox Is a Standout SUV, But How Does It Compare to the Ford Escape?
There are a lot of compact SUVs out there, which can make shopping for a new one a complex and tedious endeavor. However, two of the biggest names in this category are Chevrolet and Ford with the Chevy Equinox and Ford Escape, respectively, and it can help to look at their models to see what makes them so popular around Dayton, OH. The Chevy Equinox comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine across the lineup. Performance
Both SUVs offer capable all-wheel-drive systems as an option, which both include their version of traction control. This monitors each wheel for slippage and redirects power to the other wheels as needed. Interior
Both the Chevy Equinox and the Ford Escape offer heated and ventilated front seats, but you’ll want to get an Equinox if you want to be able to keep rear passengers cozy during the colder months, as it gives you the option of adding heated rear outboard seats. Technology

Higher trim levels upgrade this system to also include built-in navigation, and both models offer the option of a premium audio system. Chevy offers Bose® premium audio, while Ford provides a Bang & Olufsen system option. However, the Equinox gets SiriusXM® standard on every infotainment system, while this is only available on higher trim levels for the Escape.
If you’re looking for added convenience at a competitive price, you’ll appreciate that the Equinox comes with Keyless Open and Keyless Start standard. Similar systems are available for the Escape, but they aren’t even available as an option on the base trim.
Safety
Both Chevy and Ford strive to design safe vehicles, and this shows in the variety of standard driver-assist features you’ll find on the Equinox and Escape. Standard systems on the Equinox like Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning all have similar counterparts on the Ford Escape.
However, one feature you won’t find in the Escape is Chevy’s Teen Driver system. This allows parents to set limits on things like speed and speaker volume, as well as setup alerts to let them know if their teen driver is travelling outside a predetermined region.
